The goal of this section is to support Illinois Educators as they strive to provide differentiation, inclusion and supports for all students. Resources to support educators in implementing IEP and 504 accommodations and modifications.
Understanding Special education
Understood.org has many resources not only for the educator, but parents and families as well. The "Parent Toolkit" is a must for all parents with students in the IEP or 504 process. The information and definitions of the special education process are in plain English and very clarifying to help educators and parents work together without any miscommunications or misunderstandings based on "language". There is a great video archive resource called "Expert Chats" that has many view able webinars on a wide range of topics. Educators and parents can also join specific "groups" to join discussions about specific resources/topics.
IEP / 504 Support for Special Education Teachers
IEP-Q is currently on ILLINOIS ONLY resource and can only be joined by Illinois Educators. This website was created to assist educators to improve the development of IEPs for their students. Educators can create goals based on IL State Standards that include behavior with the incorporation of Illinois Social Emotional Learning standards. Educators can develop a more individualized goal for each student and find answers to questions about writing quality IEPs. Educators must register to use the website. All registered users can access the Toolbox that contain reference charts, IEP planning sheets and many other resources to develop IEPs. There is also a resource library and student scenarios to assist educators. This is a great resource for all educators to develop an understanding of the IEP process, not just special education teachers.
